MacbookPro retina 15" late 2013 e consumo mostruoso della memoria virtuale

Premesso che ho 16GB di ram e 500GB di ssd ho notato che a un po' l'occupazione della memoria oltre che essere totale sconfina troppo facilmente nell'occupazione della memoria virtuale che arriva con una facilità incredibile a 5GB, il sistema diventa inutilizzabile e molto poco responsivo.

Sembrerebbe che la responsabilità sia di Safari ma da più parti se ne loda la leggerezza raggiunta con gli ultimi aggiornamenti, quindi non dovrebbe essere così...

Siccome di cambiare computer non è nemmeno lontanamente in previsione vorrei capire se posso settare qualcosa in modo da tamponare o risolvere il problema.
