Pare che Apple voglia portare Face ID su Mac e dopo il successo riscontrato con iPhone e iPad sarebbe stupid non farlo, nonostante da poco tempo sia stato introdotto il Touch ID. Nel nuovo brevetto depositato questa settimana ci sarebbero anche dei riferimenti a una Magic Keyboard con Touch Bar.
The patent describes how Macs in sleep mode could use their camera to look for faces. This would presumably be a feature added to Power Nap, where a sleeping Mac is still able to carry out certain background activities without using much power.

Essentially, the Mac can remain in sleep mode while doing the easy bit – just figuring out whether or not any face is in view – and then enter a higher powered mode to run the facial recognition part before fully waking the machine.
L’anno scorso un rumors particolarmente dettagliato riportava come Face ID sarebbe stato integrato sui Mac, che Apple ci stia lavorando da allora?
Nel brevetto di oggi invece, scoperto da Patently Apple, il nuovo sistema di riconoscimento facciale utilizzerebbe una scansione retina piuttosto che la mappatura facciale 3D (tecnologia in uso sui nostri iPhone e iPad).
Apple notes in patent claim #86 that devices with the Touch Bar may also use a biometric sensor that is “a facial detection sensor.” In patent claim #87 Apple notes “wherein the biometric sensor is a retina scanner.”
Non è chiaro quindi se Apple è intenzionata a fare un upgrade della sua tecnologia di riconoscimento facciale o ha semplicemente iniziato a gettare le basi su di essa.
Insomma non ci rimane altro che aspettare e vedere cosa Apple abbia in serbo per noi.
